For the technical questions that remain open

We use CFD, structural analysis, measurement, testing and data analysis to investigate questions around hydrodynamics, structures, vibration and propulsion. The method follows the question—not the other way around.

Every research problem starts with a question worth answering

R&D does not replace the calculations that belong in normal ship design. It is where we investigate a hypothesis, study a phenomenon, develop a method or compare a model with measured data when the question calls for a dedicated investigation.

I need to compare two geometries or operating conditions

Visual inspection alone cannot show which change is driving resistance, flow behaviour or hydrodynamic loading.

Hướng xử lý

CFD lets us compare cases on the same basis, identify the direction and scale of change, and locate areas that deserve closer attention before the design is revised.

I need to understand cavitation risk or unfavourable flow around a propeller

Cavitation and local flow behaviour depend strongly on geometry, velocity and operating condition, making them difficult to assess from external observation alone.

Hướng xử lý

Simulation can reveal pressure distribution, velocity fields and potentially adverse regions, giving the project better evidence before deciding whether a design change is justified.

View hydrodynamics research

I need to investigate stress, vibration or structural strength

Critical regions may only appear under a specific load case, restraint condition or operating state.

Hướng xử lý

Structural analysis helps compare operating states, identify high-stress regions and examine vibration behaviour before a design change is made.

I need measured data to check a design or model

Geometric deviation and real operating parameters can materially affect a calculation or simulation result.

Hướng xử lý

Measurement provides data that can be compared with design values and model outputs, helping us judge whether the model represents the real system closely enough for the conclusion being drawn.

A simulation result is only as useful as the model behind it

We pay close attention to geometry, mesh quality, boundary conditions and convergence because each can change the result. Where measured data or a reliable reference is available, we use it to challenge the model and make the limits of the conclusion explicit.

Common questions about simulation, measurement and research

Every investigation has a different level of uncertainty, data availability and validation need. The questions below explain how we choose methods and what the resulting work can look like.

Have a technical question worth investigating?

Send us the phenomenon, hypothesis, measured data or design alternatives you are working with. We will review the question and discuss the method, the evidence needed and the most useful form of the final result.
